Ratchet and Clank have had a long and successful history on Sony’s PlayStation 2. Its action-packed, platform gameplay style was well received by gamers on the PS2 and spanned over quite a few very successful sequels. Ratchet and Clank are now making their way onto the smaller PSP screen and bringing the same successful gameplay formula with them in Ratch and Clank: Size Matters.

The best part about Size Matters is, of course, its gameplay. Throughout the game you will get the chance to play as both Ratchet and Clank, the little robot. The game is packed with loads of different weapons, different worlds, and full of action, but it’s not too over-the-top or overdone. The game does a good job of introducing all of the crazy weapons, gadgets, and ways to move around the world slowly so it isn’t too confusing for newcomers of the series. As the game progresses you will have access to more and more weapons and gadgets to use. Your basic melee weapon is a wrench; a no-brainer to use. Throughout the game you will pick up many different guns that work very differently. To master the game, you need to know exactly how each one of these guns work and when best to use them.
The enemies throughout the game are very different and each requires different techniques to defeat. Some, such as the crabs on the beach, are easy and just require a bonk on the head with your wrench. Others require the use of complicated guns and evasion skills to keep from loosing the battle. The game does a great job of mixing up the amount and difficulty of enemies on each level. The levels aren’t jam-packed of enemies around every corner, but there is enough to keep the action moving.

Although the gamplay is enjoyable, it is nothing new. The platform genre has worked very well for Sony, but a lot of these games feel too much the same: Crash Bandicoot, Jak & Daxter, Ratchet & Clank—they all have too similar a feel. If you are looking for something different in terms of gameplay, Ratchet and Clank: Size Matters is definitely not it.
