Gangs of London, Sony’s latest gangster PSP game, lets gamers get tangled up in the violent culture of gangs in the city of London. Gangs of London looks great and has a crazy amount of gameplay modes. However, it falls short on just about everything else and doesn’t have the overall presentation of a great game.
Gangs of London’s story mode is the core of the game where you will play through a story of 60 total missions. Each mission is setup with a short graphic novel type intro. The characters look realistic and the art-style is interesting. On the other hand, the voice acting is pretty bad and it doesn’t really come together all that well. The intro to each mission will setup the story and tell you exactly what you need to do on that mission; however, none of the missions seem to be related at all. In one mission you are ramming some guy off the road and the next you have to escape an area before getting beat up. There is variety in the missions, but the game doesn’t really feel tied together at all.

In contrast, the gameplay environment does feel well designed and it works well. The game blends walking on foot and driving in cars a seamless experience. Some missions you are completely on foot carrying out whatever needs to be done, and other missions you have to take things onto the streets in vehicles.
The vehicle physics in the game are done nicely and driving around the city feels solid. If you happen to ram into a wall a couple of times or you get gunned down by rival gangs or the police, your car is going to be very hard to drive. If you decide to continue after this, though, your car will eventually explode after taking further damage. Alternatively, car jacking is very easy. So you can jump from car to car at anytime. Vehicles also work pretty well as weapons. If you happen to run out of ammunition, just grab the closest car and start running people over! Double-decker buses seem to do this job the best.
