In what is clearly one of the biggest (yet oddly enough, not that well-publicized) success stories in gaming in the last decade, Nintendo's handheld completely obliterated its big competitor, Sony's PSP, in its homeland of Japan.
According to a Famitsu Marketing data survey, Sony sold 1.6 million PSPs in Japan so far this year, with Nintendo DS holding its own with 1.3 million units. Yes, that's the standard DS. Nintendo DS Lite rocketed to the top with 6.2 million units, consistently outselling PSP on a weekly basis.
That's 7.5 million DS versus 1.6 million PSPs in 2006 alone.
